The Best of The WorstThis blog features writing from my younger years … from mortifying diary entries and bad poetry to high school newspaper articles and short stories. As a tortured teen, I would have been crushed had my poignant poems and powerful prose not been taken seriously. But the funniest things are often those that are unexpected, and re-reading my efforts as an adult, I find that I was often at my best and most entertaining when I was trying to be anything but that.

The next day, Barbie found out from Gerald Edwards that Kelly was staying at Jenny’s for three days while her parents were out of town. “Goodbye mom,” Barbie called, as she walked in the door after talking to Gerald.
Barbie had just gotten back from the mountains when the trouble started again. She kept getting letters in the mail. They were from Kelly, of course. This is just one:
Ah! Saturday at last. Barbie thought it would never come. She wanted to go to the park, but she remembered the last time, so she decided not to go. Instead she called Cindy, her best friend.
The school year was coming to an end, summer was closer and the days were getting hotter. It was almost time for the end of school dance. Barbie hoped Dennis Farland would ask her to the dance.
